Hi everyone,

Just started renovating our living room and finally ripped out the carpets to begin insulating the floorboards ready for sanding. Where there was previously a fireplace, a concrete hearth now resides... Though looking a little worse for wear. I kind of like the idea of a flush hearth here, but this clearly needs tidying up, re-concreting, something...

What would you do to keep the hearth but pretty it up?

Many thanks,

With a sanded floor the hearth will look odd no matter how you clean it up.

Look up on google for hearth and fender wall costruction pics - they'll give you a mental picture to work with.

Have you thought about opening up the fireplace, and sweeping the flue, for an active fire of some kind with a customised fire surround and raised hearth?

Have you thought of sweeping and smoke testing all your flues - good practice in a new old house.
