Single story extension footings. The structural engineer has specified C32/40 mix for the footings. I have told the concrete guys C40 to be on the safe side but now they are asking about ground conditions and any additives being required? Is this overkill? When i did the front myself i just asked the concrete firm for a footing mix and thats what i got.

That's because C40 is a high strength concrete really only used in heavy commercial situations. It is also sometimes specified in chemically harsh situations. I expect you have confused the readymix supplier into thinking your land is chemically suspect.

Is there such a thing as a standard C40 mix or should i just ask for C32?

It would be C30, but C25 would be plenty and is a commonly used mix for general foundations etc.
