Hi all,

Can anyone advise me or give me a link to preparation for laying concrete. I have an old farmhouse in France and I'm in the process of rebuilding with the usual 'no budget' tactics.

I need to know recommended hardcore, sand and concrete depths and damproof membrane requirements. It's about 20sq mts with stone wall surrounds and one outside wall below ground level.

hope you can help?

Ex-pat.

dig out any soft or vegetative material to a depth of 400mm plus.

lay and compact, 100-150mm of, 30mm-dust, granular hard core.

blind with 25-50mm soft sand.

lay 1200 gauge dpm.

lay 125mm jablite polystyrene or 75mm celotex floor insulation.

pour 100-125mm floor slab (reinforced with mesh if nec.)

lay 75mm screed or power float the above.

power float is a good solid floor but i would not recomend in domestic as it can cause problems and more costly install of certain floor coverings. Problems more down to flooring installer treating it as standard concrete/screed base.
