conduit dies.. long shot...

Ok, so it's a long shot...

does anyone know of a make of good conduit stocks and dies?

the ones they got us at work were the cheap ones with what feels like aluminium guides and have fairly short, smooth, square ended handles..
they were rubbish.. were a pain to get started, often chewed the tread to bits and sometimes produced a "bent" thread..

a bloke at work had a pair that had a blue body, a slightly longer ( and undoubtedly steel ) follower, and longer handles that were chromed, nurled and with rounded ends..
his threaded the conduit like it was butter, didn't produce a "chewed" thread, and never failed to start..

I've got a REMS AMIGO for doing lots of conduit, but if it's cheap conduit it rips it to shreads, and often breaks the thread off..
 
I have a CED one, not too expensive but pretty good quality all the same, not always great on cheapy conduit though.

Nice solid dies, long rounded handles and a decent solid guide, just the job.

Which cutting compound are you using, or are you still 'old school'? I'm a fan of Texamol myself.

The "walco" ones on the other post, were used by most major commercial site contractors, including mathew halls.
 
tallow's always good, and it works well as an apetite supresant if you're on a diet...

failing that, just scrape the fat out of the bottom of the meat pan on sunday night if you have pork, or out of the frying pan from breakfast.. ( waste not want not.. free lube.. :) )
 
You mean if you have lamb.

Tallow is mutton/lamb fat; pork fat is lard; beef fat is dripping. You soak dripping and lard up on your bread and eat it because those fats are delicious. Not so tallow, which is used as a lubricant or flux for soldering lead.
 
I say, Lamb fat is excellent on bread!!!!!!

I have used 'Natural Soap' as my compound, used to buy it from Blue Anchor in Nottingham, also gets you very clean thou is like rubbing your buttocks with a house brick at first :eek:

It also does not leave dubious stains on your trollies :LOL:
 
I see they've kicked you out the Congo!!!!

It needs to have all the crunchy bits in to make it really nice!!!!!
