I can't tell 100% if this fitting has a locknut to be used with standard backbox knockouts, or if its designed to be used with threaded holes.

I think they will work with either a 20mm knockout, or a 20mm threaded steel coupling.

Yup - standard M20 thread.

They have a 20mm thread and locknut on to fit into a 20mm hole and locked with the nut or a 20mm threaded hole without it.

Use loads of them at work.
