I'm trying to replace a shower tray and can't work out what i need to connect to the soil pipe that runs under the bathroom floor about 3 foot down. the old waste was 1 1/2 inch bartol pipe. In the photo i'v moved the old u bend down onto a short bit of bartol to temporarily block off the smells. Ive tried pushing a 40 mm solvent weld bung into the boss adaptor and its about 2mm too fat. Looking at the grey bits of piping welded to the soil pipe it looks as if a bartol adaptor was welded into the boss strap.

is it possible to remove this boss adaptor or do i need to seal it somehow and put a new boss on the pipe - theres room under the floor that i can get to to do either. I'd like to use solvent weld fittings so i can do the job and forget it.javascript:emoticon(':?:')

Cant see too much detail, (picture is too small), but you wont get that boss off without breaking it. Either cut that section of soil pipe out and fit a new piece in its place, or fit a compression joint onto what you have and go from there in new pipework. Solvent should be a standard size, unsure as to why it wont fit....

That's a 40mm pushfit boss on the grey pipe. If you look it'll have a rubber seal in the end.
You need a 40mm pushfit to 40mm solvent weld adaptor.

sorry about the picture size - first time i've tried to upload one.. the main problem is that the adaptor welded into the boss is the diameter of bartol pipe which is smaller on diameter by 2mm or so than solvent pipe - looks like i'll have to use a compression join as you suggest and solvent pipe from there.

thanks to both of you for the help i'll go in search for an adaptor
