When connecting the radiator to the valves is it best to put a bit of ptfe tape on the thread and some jointing compound on the joint where the tails meet the valves .
There is no need for PTFE or jointing compound on the threads of compression or union fittings - the nuts just hold the joint together.
If the joint doesn't seal 'dry', just a smear of jointing compound on the olives of compression fittings or the joint faces of unions should be all that's needed.
If that doesn't work, there's usually something else amiss - grit in the joint, misaligned pipes, crushed olive etc. etc.
