Conservatories truth or dare

ok i have been on a few sites and spoken to a few people and there seems to be no solid answer to the question. "do i need planning permission to build a conservatory?

i went on to my local council site www.cambridge.gov.uk and i went onto www.self-buildconservatories.com

one said i needed planning permission the other said i didn't

please help!

I'm not sure where you have looked or whom you have spoken to, but the answer is pretty solid.

You can build one under permitted development rights (if you still have them) & do not need PP as long as it complies with the requirements listed here;

A Cons is also Building Regs exempt as long as you comply with the criteria listed, in the same link above; basically you must have a separately controlled heating system capable of being isolated from the main property system & maintain an external grade door between it & the main property. Electrical installations & glass (safety glass) must still comply BR’s.
