Hi All,

I need to get up on to my lean two conservatory roof in order to carry out some maintenance.

Does anyone know of a product(s) that i can attach to a regular extension ladder in order to make in into a crawl platform that i can rest across the roof beams and safely work on the roof?

Since ill only be using it once in a blue moon it would be good if i could get something that attaches to my regular extension ladder rather than having to buy and store a purpose built platform/ladder that ill not use very often.

Thanks
Rob

Perhaps post photos - it would be foolish, from a safety angle, to advise without seeing whats on site.

What is the maintenance that you propose carrying out?

Thanks for the photos but I still cant get a good general view of the roof.
Could you take a pic showing the whole context of the roof area?

If you are taking the outside photos from a first floor window then what I can see of the roof suggests dont try to crawl on that roof - get some professional who specialises in access. They'll have far more knowledge & experience than me.

Your other option might be to remove a panel(s) but I can't advise you on how to do that either.

For things like that I have a 12' scaffolding plank which I then nailed
sleeping mat foam to one side. tough rubber/foam camping mat.
it has served me well for things like that. If I thought the roof was to weak I would brace from the inside first.

Does this give you a better idea?

Forgot to mention, i need to get up on the roof in order to locate a fix a leak that ive recently
discovered

As advised above, if you've any doubts about the reliability of the roof then use simple 2 x 4 goal post props below.
Go up from steps at either end nearest the leak and lay some board thats going to span three panelsmin.
A ripped length of ply or a sheet of chipboard flooring will do as a crawl board - if you think you can handle a scaff plank that too is a possible crawl board.
Have a couple of safety ropes from the upper window, and someone else on the ground below.

There are various contraptions for this, here's one

didn't factor-in that roof angle is steeper than conservatory roof angle

I'm 53 so somewhere in between I guess

I do roof & gutter work for a living and 99% of time can manage without scaffolding which saves the customer a lot of money & upheaval but obviously there's the time taken to work out a solution and use it.

I had to sand all the woodwork above the conservatory and paint it (3 coats) and spent a half day knocking-up the 'toboggan' and more time adjusting it than actually painting but it still worked out cheaper than scaffolding

Would your insurers pay out if you fell off and through the conservatory, breaking a pelvis or whatever on the way?

Set up a go pro if you keep point loading conservatory rafters! it will be tv gold at some time, because when it goes it will be spectacular!
