I need to wire an Oven. Have 6mm2 cable. And have a cooker socket/switch. The consumer unit has a SPARE fuse slot (two pin style, with wire fuse).
The spare fuse socket in the consumer unit is coloured white/cream. The RED one is used. Is it OK to use the white unit to power a cooker on a radial circuit, the fure wire will be 30amp ?

(the red one actually runs to another smaller consumer unit, located in the kitchen; but this one doesn't have any spare fuse sockets...)

You need to change the fuse and carrier from white to red.

(5amp to 30amp)

Your best bet is to buy a wylex (or equivilent) 30amp HRC assembly. This will come complete. You can also get 'plug in' mcb's. These maybe used, get one complete with a base.
