Hi all, had 2 sparks round today to price up replacing consumer unit on property were working on. First one said the new unit must be mounted on a wood back board but the second said it needs to go straight on to the wall. I know its down to them to do whats needed but I was wondering which one is correct and if it really matters.

Cheers

You say "must" and "needs"; is that what they said?

No rules either way.

First may have said that so the cables can enter from the rear of the CU - or

Is the wall not suitable to support it?

Going on a stud wall. there are no cables entering from this wall they will be from the side.

Yes, but they can go under the CU in a space in the back board and then enter the back of the CU.

It is better than lots of holes in the side and neater.

Other than that I don't know.
