Which regs cover the IP ratings of consumer units?

Also, if a CU has a large knock out for the tails, whats the best way to seal it up?

IP4X means no gaps larger than 1MM on the top of the DB
IP2X no gaps big enough to put you finger into the DB "Finger Probe Test"

If the gap for the tails in on the top then use a compond to fill the hole of grommet, but if its on the bottom its ok. as long as you cant get you finger through the gap.

Cheers Nuttals, do u know the actual reg number? Also what compound do you recomend to do a neat job?

Regulation 412-03 & 471-05 Protection by barriers or enclosures. Also part 5.

Can't anyone recommend something to fill the gap on a CU? I presume filler and mastic are out of the equation!

Bathroom sealant is the favourite of mine. always carry some for filling round cable where they exit a wall.
Top tip: buy the ones that come with a screw top, keeps the sealant fresh for months.
