Anyone know a good way of testing the accuracy of the meter using normal sparky test equipment. Customer is convinced he is being robbed by the REC.

By using it to feed a known load ( and nothing else ) for a known period of time and then compare change in reading with calculated power used in the load.

Use a fire bar element as a load with an amp meter and volt meter to measure volts and amps into the load during the test. ( Volt meter across supply and not the load, this then includes the small amount of energy in the shunt of the amp meter ).

Take readings ever five minutes as voltage and hence power may vary during the test.

They usually fit a test meter alongside the existing then charge you £70 if it does not show a discrepancy.

Most folk convinced the electricity meter is making a fast buck have faulty appliances somewhere...
