Hi

Wondering if you guys could help

A friend has an old style toilet with the water tank/cistern, one of the old type which is high up on the wall, and has a pull chain. However he wants to keep the pan and simply change the back cistern, to a smaller one lower down with a pull lever mechanism.

If i was to add a new pull lever cistern, would it work fine with the same pan? Or are these pans designed to work specifically cisterns which are high up?

One problem is being able to lift the seat up!

High level cisterns usually allow the pan to fit closer to the wall than a low level suite, only needing enough space for the flush pipe behind the pan.
Low level suites need enough space behind the pan for the depth of the cistern. If there's not enough space, even if the plumbing fits, you may find the seat doesn't tilt back far enough to stay up.

There are some slim cisterns available, but modern ones are designed with a 6 litre capacity. That probably won't be enough to clear a pan intended to work with a 9 litre flush.

Then there's the matter of whether the pan will work with a low level cistern....

Fordham Flush Panel used to be the answer  Need more info as to pan fixing/distance etc.,Is the cistern a black rubber one with a flat bottom :?:
