Hiya

We have an old cooker hood which I would ideally like to replace. Basically last year while pregnant I broke our old old whirpool oven knob and had to replace the whole oven which was done successfully. Now I need a hob to match as the new oven is black and hob is an old white one :D

The extractor fan thing above hob is old also and is one where as long as it is switched to a setting when you pull the cupboard front looking bit out it sets to work. The light etc doesnt work and we could really do with a new one also. I think it is plugged into a plug above cupboards near the ceiling (which is also where we plug our outside security light in).

Would it be possible to replace with something that doesnt need the cupboard bit attached to it (looks like a cupboard door lol) Maybe something like this?

Obviously I need to look into measurements etc. Our house is all electric, no gas so not sure if I need to get a certain one?

Thanks!!

Is your current fan a recirculating one or is it vented outside? The chimney ones are mostly vented (but the one in your link is suitable for both) & far more effective, so if that is how yours is then you should have no problems installing the new one. You can connect it to the existing socket as long as the plug is fused correctly(3amp usually), but a cable across a bare wall will look a bit naff so you would be better having an FCU discreetly installed.
