Hi folks

My aunt is looking to get new cupboards and work surfaces fitted in her kitchen.

Although she has no desire to change or move her cooker, as I understand things she has been told that the cooker must be moved because of current legislation regarding proximity to a doorway. The problem being that the cooker is currently within 12" of the doorway.

In this case the only option is to move it to the other side of the room, with additional rewiring and the installation of a hood incuring additional costs.

Any thoughts on the advice that she has been given? Particularly considering that moving or changing the cooker isn't actually needed in order to fit the new units. Is there an obligation on the fitter's part to move the cooker in order to comply with such regulations?

Thanks in advance.

:?: EDIT - Originally posted under "General". Not quite sure why this has been moved to electrics - the regs in question aren't wiring regs and 10:1 the person installing the kitchen units isn't an electrician. Now IF the cooker needs moving ... well she'll cross that bridge later!
