Cooker rings suddenly stopped working; repair or buy new

Appologies if not strictly DIY, but a free-standing electric cooker all the rings have stopped working; oven still goes.

Will an electrician be able to fix (is your gut feeling its probably worth it), or shall we just buy a new one for £170 ?

I can't give details as the cooker is at work and I've just been told this by text.

could be a link or connection has come loose in the connection box, or it may be that there's a fault with the controls, it may also be that a power cut has reset the cooker and it's timer needs to be reset ( although this usually affects the oven not working as well / instead of the rings.. )..
worth a look at if it turns out to be a simple fix..

Just as a point of terminology.

Most electrician's do not repair appliances. So when looking to get your cooker repaired you should look for domestic appliance repairers that specialise in the make you have.

For most electricians, all interest stops at the outlet point in the wall.
Most don't carry any spares and have no competence in cooker/TV/breadmaker/dishwasher/etc repairs.

Its unusual for all 4 hotplates to be linked together.
They are usually in 2 pairs.
