Hi,

I have just fitted a new worktopand sink in the kitchen. The problem I have is that no matter what I do, I keep getting a leak (small trickle) from one of the joints from the cold water supply. This is a joint from the original copper pipe to the plastic piping. I have used a straight "snap" connector that you need to twist to tighten.

Can anyone suggest the best course of action to stop this leak, long term? I even tried calling out plumbers, but none were able to commit to a day to come out!!

Thanks in advance for your assistance,

Graham.

Replace it with a brass compression couplingh making sure to put an insert/sleeve on the pastic pipe to prevent it from being crushed.
What did you cut the pipes with copper and plastic? you may have damaged the sealing ring on a rough edge.

Did you use an insert for the plastic pipe?

I have more problems with pushfit than with copper (the pro's choice :) )

Cheers for that.

When you say to put an insert in, would this be the plastic inserts that I got when I bought the plastic piping?

I assume you mean to use the brass fitting with brass olives, which then means that you done have to rely on the rubber seal not being broken?

Cheers

Graham

Yes, the olive is what also holds the pipe in the fitting!

If you mean one of these:

...then you've learned that making push-fit joints isn't as easy as many people think.

S'funny - I have no problems with any joints, including push-fit.

I guess I must just be a lucky amateur, 'cos I've been lucky thousands of times, but it's odd how the more care I take, the easier it is. ;)

When you say that you have fewer problems with copper, do you mean with brass? Otherwise your choice appears to make no sense. :?

i find myself having to take the joint apart as i'm telling myself that it didnt engage properly (even if it goes up to the insert depth on the pipe),

I've had problems with the pipe pinching the o-ring and consequently leaking, as i'm new to plumbing and the leaks occuored in my early years i have been mentally scarred and dont like using it .

nice bit of endfeed and solder anyday.

(though pushfit does come in usefull for very awkward pipework.)
