Copper prices...??

How much is scrap copper worth at the mo? Whats the minimum size cable do you warrant it is worth while stripping? 10mm earth? and what methods do you use to strip PVC cables? Burning , or good old stanley?

I get £40 - £60 for a black bin full of unstripped copper.

I strip 10mm and above. I'm afraid it is stanley knife time.

Burning cable is not allowed due to the polloutants released from the burning insulation, and so many scrap yards will not take burnt cable, and those that will will pay you for dirty copper, which is not worth as much as bright copper is.

What about copper pipe is that worth the same as stripped copper wire.

AFAIK it is not as pure as copper wire, but still fetches a decent price.

Ah right ok thanks. Didnt know if I had been wasting my precious time last night!!!lol.. Shame I dont have anymore off cuts from the 240mm 4core armoured job I did a little while ago...

Me and the other lads at work save all the scrap which comes off jobs.

We weigh it all in together and split the money. It pays for a very good night out a couple of times a year

A good pal of mine has a skip hire company and keeps me up to date with scrap prices, and who is paying the best money
