Cost of running dishwasher

The first peak must be heating the water. So even if you had a hot fill machine the water would have had almost half an hour to cool down whilst being pumped and sprayed around.

That is very different to my result, when I checked mine - you have a short time of heating at the beginning, then a much longer time of water heating long after the wash was completed. Why would it do that?
ours has a drying cycle

also on the subject of having a hot water feed - ours has a cold rinse cycle before it starts the wash (we often use the cold rinse during the day) this would be a waste if taking hot water, so you would need a dual feed - and this would probably make the selling price less competitive

I had a WM once with H&C feeds.

Does anybody make appliances which only have a hot feed?

I doubt it. If I recall correctly, there was a time when most machines had dual (H&C) feeds, to the extent that whenever I installed plumbing provision for WMs and DWMs I always installed both. However, I don't recall ever having seen a 'hot only' one.

Indeed, if (as is certainly the case today), the machines are going to offer a choice of cycles which use different temps, that could obviously not be achieved with a hot feed alone.

Every couple of years we have this discussion lol

I have a very old dishwasher that is designed for hot feed only.

And a more modern 2012 Bosch that is hot feed only.

Hot feed is perfect for them as they run hotter that a cloths washer

I guess I have to blame the effects of old age on my memory :-) I've been around here for nearly 15years and don't recall such a discussion! I recall plenty of discussions about having a hot feed in addition to a cold one, but not ones with only a hot feed.

I can perhaps understand for the very old one, and even 1012 is pretty old, but these days people seem to expect (some are 'obsessed with' :-) ) having low temp cycles available (my 'a few years old' one offers cycles down to 35C), in both DWs and WMs - and, as I said, that could presumably not be achieved with hot-only filling.

Certainly cloths detergent is now more suited to 30c or 40c.

I will have to pay more attention to dw soap

Running at the moment, first the drain pump runs this shows as 81 watts, then water heated 2.2 kW, then the cleaning pump 67 watts. It is unlikely I will catch it all with recent usage, so will add to the post as the cycle goes on.

What is going on here? Emptying again, I think

our dishwasher (miele) on a 55° universal wash with pre rinse used 1.65kwh

The wife puts everything thru the dishwasher , I help of course by monitoring the app.

So does ours. If you open it during the drying cycle, your face is met by a lot of hot steam, no sign of water at the bottom.
once during a heavy cold , before opening the door I remembered all that awaiting steam, I also remembered breathing warm damp air is good for colds, so I opened the door and took a deep breath - all those cleaning chemicals breathed deeply in, nearly knocked me out.... never had a cold since

Interesting seeing what it does, but our dishwasher has so many programs, the same applies to the washing machine and the tumble drier, the latter not a problem, if clothes not dry, turn it back on again, but with the washing machine's failure means more detergent, so don't want to run the short cycles as then may need a second wash.

Dishwasher forks are the main problem, if put in basket prongs down they can stop the spinning thing turning. But first dishwasher was around 1981, working in Algeria so had the money to buy one, and got a deal with my wife, if I got a dishwasher I would never again need to wash the dishes, she has forgotten that now, I feel I should fill the dishwasher at least, I have to duck quick if I say first signs of dementia, but she must suffer from it, the amount of times she watches the same who done it on TV. Or she fell asleep!

But the hot fill is interesting, as the amount of water my dishwasher uses, I would not think even if connected to the hot supply, it would get any hot water, as need to run nearly a whole boil of water before I get hot in the sink.
