Cost to replace key entry with fingerprint or retina scan ?

Just thinking how much it could be to do away with keys for either my house or business premises and have entry reliant upon fingerprint or retina scans.

I am looking at setting up remote businesses and don't really want to to have a key problem. I also like the idea of simply logging into my system and changing the access rights for John Doe to stop him gaining entry to the building.

If mega money then a no go but if possible for reasonable cost I'd probably go for it.

Forget it.
Not reliable enough - fingerprints can be temperamental beasties and the administration is a pain.
Prone to attack.
Needs to be fail secure - so what happens in an extended power outage?

Finger print access is not reliable at opening doors. It is reliable at NOT opening doors. It is intended to prevent anyone getting into a room where only authorised people are allowed. That is different from the front door of a house. In the office if one person's finger fails to open the door another authorised person or a manager's over ride key can be used. Or the door doesn't get opened and work is delayed. Arriving home and finding the finger print will not open the door is a different matter, there may be no one else with a finger that can be used so getting indoors will be delayed.

Also locks that are key operated are required by insurance companies.
You could sue a keypad for business use during the day with a PC based system, giving remote access with keys used at night for example.
