Covering Up A Damaged Concrete Fence Post.

Hi All,

I’m putting in gravel boards and replacing fence panels in a fence reusing the existing concrete fence posts.

One or two of the posts have crumbled a bit and you can see some of the metal rebar inside. The posts are still solid but look a bit unpleasant.

I’d like to cover them with some wood to match/blend in with the fence to panels. I can’t screw in as the posts may crumble more.

Does anyone have any advice or done a similar thing? Any recommendations for an adhesive to use?

DeWalt extreme masonry drill 5mm and yellow plugs and screw on wood.
Other option is use clear Stixall or other polymer grab and stick on.
I'm sure they make plastic covers for H posts when converting to a plastic fence?

Can't you reconcrete the missing bits? At least slap on some concrete mix over the holes where the rebar is showing?

You can fill the damage and then paint all of the posts in fence paint

A few years ago now, but I took out the remnants of some quite damaged council reinforced concrete posts. These were some 70 years old, and just four quite thin steels in each, rather than rebar. I was quite surprised by the complete lack of any rust, on the steel. The concrete was very brittle.

You can treat the rust and use an epoxy repair mortar.

RE Harry's point: concrete is chemically alkaline so steel only rusts when moisture gets to it hence the importance of adequate cover, proper compaction and where applicable properly formed construction joints.
