Coving Disaster!! Anything We Can Do?

We were warned not to bother removing the coving in a 4 x 6m living room but it is very large, not in keeping and ugly, we hate it Iso much we tried to remove it and we've found that it appears to be hand moulded directly onto wall/ceiling (circa 1960?), so there is practically no void behind it in the apex. Definitely doesn't appear to be fitted in lengths, there are no joins.

It's not coming off easily at all and it's pulling the plasterboard ceiling and wall plaster off, it's making a massive mess to the extent probably need to replace some ceiling plasterboard.

Are there any techniques that can be used to remove it? Steam or anything like that?

Are we better trying to get someone to replace what we've removed (bearing in mind it seems bespoke).

Any advice at all would be gratefully received, I think after just 30 minutes trying to remove some we've set back this room and now unlikely to finish before Christmas, we're totally gutted.....

It’s more likely just very well “glued” in place. The coving could be solid plaster, but it’s unlikley to have been mouldedndirectly.
it will make a horrible mess when removed and then you’ll need a plasterer to fix the damage and skim the repair or whole room.
A multi tool and vacuum might help with mess (loads of dust sheets)
maybe find a plasterer first, take their advice on removal so you don’t make more of a mess than needed.
the plasterer probably doesn’t fancy hours of stripping the old stuff off. And at a plasterer’s rates, you need to do the donkey work yourself.
