This will probably sound stupid but hey ho. I am trying to replace a washer on a tap and cannot loosen the valve section without the tap turning. I have tried a towel round it with a set of grips but it still turns (ideally need three hands) any suggestions apart from removing the tap from the bath? Thanks and please be gentle

This one gets us all from time to time and it can prove very awkward as you don't want to disturb the pipe connection underneath.
I've got a huge adjustable spanner that usually works, but sometimes you can brace the tap against the wall with a length of timber, use some slip jaw pliers (high risk of damage) or find someone with large hands. Can only wish you luck, really.
