Cracks in ceiling

Hi, Moved into old house and a lot of the ceilings have cracks running along the board lines, What would be best to do - 1. scrape out and fill (Easy) or 2. Tape over and plaster in and try to blend in with the rest of the ceiling (Not so easy) Or is there a better way?

Tape over and plaster may work but is not easy.

An easier method to stabilise the board is to drill a few holes along the crack and put some foam in to stop the movement.
