CRACKS LIKE DRY MUD

I am painting using dulux rich matt over a silky paint and when it dries it cracks like dry mud HELP

You often get that with matt over silk. Try another coat, if that doesn't work, learn live with it.

Dulux Rich Matt is an disasterous paint indeed. It should be banned and taken off all shelves, as should One Coat Emulsions. Try soaking the Matt three times at different stages, then try and wash it off with a sponge.

Should i have used an undercoat first if so what type

Sorry for delay due to recovering from a severe case of the flu. Answer to your question is in my opinion is you should have used Leyland Vinyl Matt over the Vinyl Silk. Rich Matt has tooooooooooooooooooooo many problems attached to it.
