An item on this morning's TV news, made mention of a ceiling light/fan, which simply plugs into a ceiling light socket - hanging on the flex. The article seemed to suggest the fans were being sold by Screwfix, though it seems very unlikely.
A dangerous and crazy idea - every time the fan is switched on, the reverse torque winds up the flex, so eventually the flex will fail.
