Crimping power tool leads

Hi all,

I have 5 dodgy Festool PlugIt leads. They all developed breaks in cable just past the point at which they exit the the cable relief (at the end that plugs in to the tool). Being a tight git, I am considering trying to repair them (they are £25 each).

Initially I considered cutting and joining the cables, soldering and heat shrink tubing them such that the joins would be offset and well within the cable relief section. It then dawned on me that the solder joins would be a potential point of failure.

I am now considering using non-insulated copper crimp through slices and then covering them with glue lined heat shrink tubing.

Am I better off just paying £125 for new leads? Constructive advice will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The crinps are probably going to last longer than soldered joints but either technique would pass PAT if the joints are before the strain relief. Have you had a look at CPC or RS to see if the connectors are available there-£25 for a power cable is a bit extreme.

why they dont sell a rewireable connector so that a lead of any length could be made I dont know. other than to keep you buying new leads of course....
