customer that did not pay,

If he's got a nice motor, just subtly ask him how much a full respray is for it.

Trouble is, going the legal route just takes too long, and starts taking over your life.

No This job is near "Dorking " "Surrey", he also has a shop, that has something to do with filling ink jet cartridges. in Sutton.
I spoke to the chippy last night, and he phoned him again and the customer was on the phone telling him how broke he was, "but he could get him other jobs, with people he knew, as a kinda pay back,

the guy sounds like a total arse getting people to work for him and then knocking them

nice idea about asking how much for a respray on the car,but that isnt really hitting him in the pocket really,as no doubt he will claim off of his insurers,
i heard of a contractor ripping off a gang of brickies and they went round his house and turned all his cars and vans upside down onto there roofs, within the day he was back behind a hire car,it will only cause him inconvenience for a short while,
personally talking to everyone you know at the builders yards you use and cafes about this a.rse hole will in the end pay dividends, you will shatter his reputation, which no doubt will hurt him in the pocket more.

No it won`t he has no "reputation" He`s laughing @ trades with his cronies in some wine bar. Drains are the key ;) OR get a plackard and walk up+ down outside his shop .

Some of these types don't care about their reputation, had a guy like that a while ago, said he could get me loads of work with his friends, what's the use of that if they're all like him??

get a photo of him and make up a "wanted" poster of him with the wording "This man does not pay his bills" and post it round all of the plumbers, builders, electrical merchants in the area as a warning, and several posted along his street and posted through neighbours doors and at least one taped to his own front door..

you don't say what you do.
is it a job you can go back and remove materials not paid for?

'Goods remain the property of ............. until paid for'

If your invoice says the above quote then you are legal to go back and remove your materials.

Andy

You can say that and it might make him think you have a right to take them back.

The reality is that when they have been installed like a bath or boiler they cannot be removed totally legally. The only remedies you have is legal ones to recover the money.

Actually thats quite a strong situation because if you have his bank details then you can use a procedure to take out as much of the money oweing as he has.

If there is no money or you did not photocopy his deposit cheque, then you can register a caution on his house! That will make it difficult for him to sell it or raise large loans.
