Cut roof instead of trusses

Finally found the detail I was after in all those pics

View attachment 412176

EUR350 difference between 600 rafters and 400 rafters. Buttons in the grand scheme of things..

But if your calcs say 600 will be fine, go for it

Maybe cost in the extra for thicker battens and see how it settles out

Thats a saving for rafters. Still need to factor in more joists and more collars which takes it up to 750e.

Oh, I thought your ridge beam was structural.. Not sure where that came alon

Have you considered a few metal trusses and some chunky purlins?

Havent considered or priced anything like this. Cant see it coming in any cheaper than the cut roof thou. Just of the phone to another truss place, they where saying id get away without needing any steel beams for that span if they used stronger timber(his words) and would ya believe, im just away from a job yesterday where the client has very similar trusses, heights and spans without any rsjs underneath. Still coming in pricey thou so much considering to do.

Trusses all the way for me, simpler, quicker, and Velux or similar companies do skylights 55cm wide by different lengths, so no need to double up trusses.

Id prefer trusses but the price is going to dictate it. see the estimates ive done up now. Still coming in alot more . cut roof at 400 c is coming in at 4204euro pic one. This is with double rafters each side of large veluxs. Im getting cheap second hand for 400e(200each) for velux gpl uk08 s which are coming out of reno. Still in good condition. Would i need double joists aswell where veluxs are going or just double rafters

if i go with 600 c for cut roof if my engineer allows, with an 8x4 steel beam right along the center and with a 4x4 upright at center or rsj to floor. 3395euro for this

pic 3 is for trusses 4900e now for them. Wont need any steel under them after chatting with the truss guy earlier. Although, i have them here at 200 a truss in my pricing, im expecting alot more. Im going of the clients job i was at where he got them for this end of last summer. teleporter in price. Have double trusses for both veluxs although will i need a 3rd. If i remember right if the ope is more than 600mm, you need double but if its more than 1200mm, ill need 3. Might be wrong on this.

You can see, big difference between the truss price and .600c cut roof. I still might be able to get the timer for cut roof even cheaper, maybe 10-15% after chatting with a fella i know works for the sawmill. If i dont, still alot of saving if buy for the prices i have on my estimate.

Pic 4 is rest of materials for the roof.

To some extent, I think you might just need to keep a sense of perspective on this; that garage is absolutely whopping. Big stuff costs.

How much for the timber to make your own trusses?

Yeah, but the OP supposedly gets his labour for free.

Interesting, amusing and strange reply from you here noseall! What warrents this comment?

I will be getting it for free. Do you find this difficult to believe?

Because comparing the two roofs requires the labour factor, regardless.

Nothing is for free.

How does it. Did you not read the posts ive been making previous.

My son will be giving me a hand. I will not be handing over money to him because hes my son, and he wouldnt take a penny, cent of me while helping. How can you not work out this is free.
Uncle is similar, he'll pop in for a day or two to give me a hand either errecting the trusses or helping with the cut roof. When its time to go home, no money will be exchanged. Again, can you not see this.

I dont know what its like in the uk, but we dont sit with a calculator and price in favours here in ireland. We can get more than money when family needs a pull out.
The money that will be exchanged for these two labours will be zero!

So with all that said, counting in labor costs regardless is futile! The stage when this garage is finished, there will only be X amount out of my account for materials and nothing for labor. Can we now agree on this after this explanation to you.

What perspective?

O i know its a big garage, which is why every thousand or two saved can go elsewhere on it.

Can i make my own trusses thou. Are they not best made in the factory.
