I wanted to cut some of these neatly as you do with the smaller pipe cutters, so I bought a large pipe cutter from Northern Tools which handles up to 3"dia. How sharp should the cutting wheel be? The wheels supplied have a cutting edge about as thick as the back of a table knife.

blk iron cutters have a thicker wheel, which is needed due to the thickness of the pipe wall.if your cutting copper the wheel is slightly larger but still leaves a lip which needs to be reamed out with the correct tool or file.

My cutter which does 2" copper pipe also does small sizes, normal monument G shaped effort. Sounds like the wheel's wrong for copper.
The 5" CI cutter's wheel sounds like the one you have.
