i find cutting from the back of the tile helps when doing a tricky cut as you describe.

Cutting a square in a floor tile

Tiles are 330mm square.
We're only talkin about an area 1.2m x 0.8m so not really a wet-room as such but I suppose as there's no tray it could be seen as a "mini" wetroom.
The floor substrate has been constructed so that one whole tile (with the centre cut out) will fit in the middle.
There are then four trapezoid shapes around this centre piece and the tiles have been laid with the joints along the diagonals of the trapezoids (I think that's what Jason has mentioned).
This allows for the falls to the drain, i.e the centre tile is lower than the surrounding tiles, (but there is a gradual slope as opposed to a step!)
Its all done now, and looking good! Got a 'grinder from B&Q for £16 and got that disc Jason recommended for £2.10. Sorted.
