cutting bath panel down

Hi all

Bought a bathroom from a local independent bathroom/tile retailer the bath we have is 1680 long and we've just come to fit the bath panel and it is 1700 long.

I've called the retailer to all for an exchange for the correct size and they say 1700 is a standard size and the norm is to cut them down for smaller baths.

Is this true or a they having me on??

A quick google shows lots of 1680 bath panels, screwfix do one.

It is normal to cut down on most bath panel, hardboard, MDF and plastic.
