I use a plastered rule for running a stanley down and then turn the board over and snap it. No dust.

The best tip I can give, but has limited usability is my the guy who works for me - Rob.
You point him to the area you want insulated, you leave a large pile of insulation for him.
You return a few hours later, it's done perfectly with pretty much 0 waste and it's all cleared up !
Alas, you can't buy a Rob from your local B&Q's !
