You should always have a solid bead of dab around the board perimeter. This is especially relevant across the bottom where skirting boards are likely to be fitted.
We then fill in with another two solid vertical lines of dab on say a 1200mm wide board.
Plug sockets, light switches etc should also be ringed around with a decent amount of gear.
Radiator positions and any other relevant fixing positions should also receive their fare share of gear.
Fixing points aside, the main relevance of a solid bead of dab, coupled with applying dab around any exiting services, is to stifle air movement behind the board.
It is surprising just how much the air can move behind inadequately sealed boards. Remove an electric back box on a cold windy day and you can feel the air moving. The main culprit is the lack or an air seal where the bottom of the board meets the first floor void.
