Damaged Rear Fire Surround

Hello all,

I've managed to knock a piece of the rear of my fire surround off (I won't bore you with how I managed this) - so my questions are:

1) Would it still be safe to operate?

2) Would I be able to replace the rear section, i.e. without having to buy an entire new fire?
