Damaged wire!

Assuming that the inner (blue/brown) insulation and copper are undamaged, and there is some slack in the cable, what do we think would be better in the long term: cut the cable and fit a maintenance-free junction box, or don’t cut it and protect it with tape?

I guess you could have the best of both, i.e. run the cable through a box without cutting it, with the box just providing protection.

Really appreciate all of the responses. Luckily the run was only to the next socket and the floorboards were yet to be screwed back in. All a matter of luck I guess. The cable was super long as it was routed through to the side and back on itself due to furniture not being moved! So I manged to just pull it out and route in a straight run. Problem solved. If this wasn't an option I think a box would have definitely been required. Thanks again all
