We have just bought our first house - a georgian terraced split level flat- with a few damp issues that we've already had looked at but nothing serious.
This morning whislt rummaging under my sink i noticed the exterior wall has no plaster left and the brick work is very damp and crumbling. I managed to stick my head out of a window to look at this wall and its much darker than the rest of the wall.
I'm assuming this is a bit more serious than the damp we have in the lower part of the house (the kitchen is on the second floor), and is very likely due to some faulty plumping.
I will call in damp proofers, and we are planning on re-doing the kitchen possibly in Feb, so will hopefully be able to get around this without having to tear up the entire kitchen - but before I call anyone and get a heart attack as to how much this will cost, I was wondering if someone could give me a heads up on how you would fix this sort of thing? Would it involve replacing the brick work, or is there a diffferent work-around for this?
Thanks in advance!
