Hello

I have a listed building with clay tiles on it the roof its bloody dangerous and could collapses.

I obviously want to save as many tiles as possible. I've been considering a cherry picker for the job, but is there another way?

Would you brace underneath as best you could with acros and climb on the roof or is there a scaffolding system that could be used to bridge the roof some how?

Its only single story so nothing would have to be too high.

thanks

Erect a scaffold internally and remove from within. Once you have made a hole through it becomes simple.

I'd prefer to work from on the roof, secured from underneath using props.
That's fine as long as the laths aren't rotten as you still need to start at the highest point in order to reach the uppermost tiles.

The fastest way is to start at the ridge and allow the tiles to slide down the roof. You can't do this if the laths are rotten but you can start anywhere you like from within. And, it would be a right ball-ache trying to secure all the laths.

I would not work from inside as you will be getting all the dust in your face.

Thanks for the replies.

I will have a think about how best to do it. One of the big concerns is when the weight of the roof is lifted off the structure it might all collapse. There are some hefty cracks you can put your fist through and a leaning gable end.

Im going to attempt to brace it all as best I can. I might get an engineer in to take a look first. What kind of engineer or other would you recommend? Also how much should I budget for?

Thanks

Jon
