Water Board tells me that black slime in taps, pipes etc is caused by biofilm. Is there a way that the average diy guy can deal with this? Or does anylne know if a British Gas contract which includes plumbing would cover bio film removal or control?

I would ask your water co how to deal with it. Do they not have a duty to provide you with a safe water supply?

I did and they tell me that everyone has biofilm in their water systems. At their end they add flouride to the supply but at our end it's up to us the householders. Had a BG (Dyno rod) plumber in to check the tank but the tank is clean. He suggested that I should add 2 sterilising tablets to the tank in the loft at night and then run the water into the bath in the morning. HE did not mention biofilm. Has anyone else heard of this?
