I’m about to install a deck at the front of a terrace house and have a couple of questions. The deck will be 1.8m deep x 3.3m long which will be fixed to the house and the front garden wall (below the dpc). I was going to leave a gap of 10mm around the deck frame on the house and wall side and pack out with washers to allow for expansion, contraction and damp issues but wondered if this would be enough. As it will be packed out with washers and tight to both walls if it expands would it be likely to push the garden wall out?

Assuming you run the supporting timber front to back of wall expansion should not be a problem as timber expands very little along the grain .
