I am planning a decking project using the information on this site.

I will have posts concreted into footings and my beams coach bolted to the posts, I then lay my joists on top of the beams;

- what do I use to fix the joists to the beams to stop them moving about?

Many thanks.

Screws. Or Timberloks. Or bolts. Or rubber bands. Or glue. Or prayer.

In other words, just attach them somehow. Don't matter.

Well, dont rely on prayer unless you have been very, very good.

Make the beams big/plentiful enough that you don't need joists on top. Do it all in 6x2, all running in the same direction, with noggins and 'feet' where reqiured.

Feet can be bricks or blocks supporting the joists over long spans, or offcuts of post screwed to the side and cut flush with the top.

i would say (sensible advice) as long as 1/3 of the nail or more is through the top wood into the wood it is secured to you will be fine !! for my deck i used 75mm screw nails (these are not expensive) and will hold forever

check out my deck project "its sturdy maybe even overkill " but wont break the bank
