Hi guys

I'm looking for a bit of advise regarding building a deck over a raised patio. Basically the patio is attached to the house and is 10m x 4m and has a retaing wall all the way around it. The paving slabs are resting on a hard core base, which is probably just under 1m from the ground.
Can I run 6x2 or 8x2 joists from the house across to the retaining wall and then maybe dig a post half way across (2m) into the hard core?

Your thoughts are really appreciated. :D

Depends just how high above the flags you want to fit the decking.
if it is ok to sit it on the flags--here is a good tip for you .

Just have a look out for some Euro pallets -they should all be the same dimensions .
Lay them on top of flags -screw them together-- use slate or decent packers to level them up-- and screw your decking to the structure (pallets).
Very cheap and LOADS quicker and easier to do.
You will then have a 'floating deck'-- Just like a floating floor !! :)

Trust me-- it works very well .
