Whilst I left a gap between my decking boards it wasn't big enough and they've expanded up tight to each other. The water collects and it's virtually airtight so things have already started to go mouldy 6 months after laying.
I'm taking the boards up, spray the mould with bleach and then going to paint the back of the boards and joists with Sika wood preserver and re-lay with a good 6mm gap between the totally sodden (max expansion) boards.
One problem - 90% of the screws I've used are shearing off at varying lengths. I'll hopefully be "mostly" as I'm moving the boards slightly but if there's a next time then that won't be an option and I'll hit the top of the broken screw.
So, intro over, what decking screws can I use please that won't shear off?
Thanks
