Deep Gap Polyfiller

Is deep gap pollyfiller the same as normal poly filler and just a marketing con.

I need to fill some chased out channels in my wall which are about 2cm deep, was hoping to use normal poly filler, but then i saw this deep gap stuff.

can you not use some 1 coat plaster?

what would be the advantage of using one coat???

It doesn't crack but is a bit trickier to use.
