Evening all
Seems opinions on this are like a***holes, everybody has one and they're all different!
We've had our basement flat living room stripped back to bare brick and brickwork de-effloresced (is that a word?) then membraned and then dot-and-dabbed with 40mm insulated plasterboard, then that has been plastered over. All this was completed back in January, and the contractor told us to leave at least 9 months or maybe even a year before decorating. When we said we wanted to paper it he said he personally wouldn't, but give it the year.
Other decorators and builders we've spoken to have said various things, a couple even said NEVER paper over plaster EVER, which we thought a bit extreme, others have said we can seal it (Zinsser 123 or similar) now, others have said wait 9 months, others have said a 40% or 50% emulsion mist can be put on now, or after 9 months...
And so on and so on. We have a dado rail and want to put Anaglypta dado paper (https://coveryourwall.co.uk/collections/anaglypta-dado-panels) below it, and a standard anaglypta above it, with contrasting matt emulsions.
***EDIT*** The reason we were told a year is because of the membrane tanking and the dot'n'dab meaning there's a load of extra stuff to dry out, not just the plaster, and the fact we live in a basement so the airflow is low and background dampness higher. ***END EDIT***
Let's have your thoughts on when (or even whether) we should get on with that!
Ta in advance
