hi

i've got a delonghi double electric oven which i bought about a year ago off ebay second hand. my brother in law put it in for me as he is almost qualified as an electrician. once it was in the fan made an irritating a lound rattly noise whenever it was on. i just assumed that it was a bit crappy and thought nothing of it.

i mentioned it to someone who asked if it was wired up correctly as if it wasnt then the fan could be going round the wrong way causing the noise.

i have just recntly moved and had the oven installed by someone else and it no longer makes the noise. could it have been right about it being installed incorrectly or is it just a coincidence???????

All the oven fans I've ever seen have synchronous motors in them so it's impossible to wire them up to run backwards. The only way you could do this is to take it apart and put the armature in back to front. Was the 'someone' you spoke to that impeccable source of information "the bloke in the pub"?

Either the blades have been fouling something, but he problem has cleared thanks to the oven bering moved, or a crappy sleeve bearing on the fan motor is starting to break down and the move has given it a reprieve. For an extra threepence ha'penny manufacturers could fit fans with ball bearing motors that would see out most of the other components in the oven.
