Detecting domestic in wall wiring.

Hi,
I want to drill 4 6mm holes in a cavity block wall covered with wallpaper. The holes will be reasonably close to power outlets. How can I determine where wiring is running through the cavity blocks beneath to prevent severing wiring?

By using a wiring detector. Beware though, they're not always reliable.

The cables should only really run horizontally or vertically from the electrical accessories so anywhere outside of these zones should be OK. I say should though, it's always worth double checking.

If still unsure but want to drill the holes anyway, isolate the power before drilling.
