Does any one know how many handsets can be run from one master phone and over what distances? Is it possible to have two phones plugged in to phone sockets and run the rest cordless?
It's usually about 5 cordless handsets max per base station.
You can get DECT phones usually in sets of up to 4 (this is the best value way to buy them) or, provided they are all GAP compatible, you can register additional phones to a basestation later even if they are not the same brand. If they are not GAP you can't add extra phones or replacements for damaged units.
You can usually have 3 or 4 corded phones (including base stations) plugged into wall sockets before the power is insufficient to make them all ring. The chargers for the other handsets do not need to be plugged into the telecoms socket.
In some cases it is possible to have 2 base stations and have the handsets connect to either of both of them whichever they are nearest to (if you want this read the instruction manuals very carefully before you buy).
In the recent "Which" tests they measured range over 35metres allowing for walls and things. Binatone were a bit weak in range. The manufacturers usually claim they have a range of 300 metres but this is in ideal conditions in open ground with no obstructions.
I have 2 (BT phone) handsets registered to one base, but the further one doesn't work well even though it's only about 25m from the base (I assume this is due to very thick stone walls).
We are refurbishing the ground floor which is currently derelict and I don't think the signal will carry from the base. From your response it sounds like the best thing would be to run an extension cable downstairs and set up a second base to service the ground floor.
