My first time using a Pyronix Twin Alert with a Dimension panel.

I was hoping to use the device both as an internal speaker and sounder. Sounder works fine connected to bell output, but I don't understand the mode of operation of the external loudspeaker port on the Dimension panel and how this should be wired with the single SPK input of a Twin Alert.

Can the Twin Alert be wired in this case for both functions and, if so, how? Or do I need a standalone internal speaker?

The passive speaker in the sounder likely has one leg tied to 0v, so you should only connect one of the analogue speaker outputs from the panel to the other leg on the sounder along with the aux power and active siren connection. It may be a bit quieter with this config though.

Other panels like the Flex and G2 use pulsed digital outputs to drive passive speaker tones. That's how they have one connection for speaker and the other leg is either 0v or +12v.

It would be better if the sounder had the two speaker terminals separate for direct connection to the panel, but you'd likely need to rework the PCB for that.

I hoped you would reply. Thanks very much @GalaxyGuy. I had already tried connecting the speaker to one of the Dimension outputs and then programmed 99 output as E/E Horn. (Reason for the speaker is because we can't hear the keypad beeps outside.)

I'll give this a go again later and see if I can get it working.

If I were to buy a separate internal loudspeaker with two inputs does the resistance matter? I see 8 and 16 ohm loudspeakers online and the Dimension manual is silent on what the loudspeaker port requires.

You may damage the passive speaker if you connect to a digital output. It may be worth posting a pic of the sounder pcb front and rear.

The Dimension will work with 8 or 16 ohm. It's pretty loud on the 8 ohm but adjustable with the on-board pot.

Sorry I meant I’d connected it to the internal loudspeaker output rather than the digital ones.

I’ll get a photo of the loudspeaker later when home.

I didn't get a photo in the end but can confirm you're right. All works by wiring the SPK port on the twin alert to the right-hand extension speaker outlet on the panel. The twin alert has its own volume control pot.

Thanks for your help.
